- Downtown/Route 58/Economic Redevelopment: 12/1/2021 at 6 pm
- Housing/Community Services: 12/6/2021 at 6 pm
- Agriculture/Farmland Preservation: 12/13/2021 at 6 pm!

Welcome to the Riverhead Comprehensive Plan Update page! This is the first update to the Town’s comprehensive plan since 2003 and we want to hear from you about the issues and opportunities facing the Town over the next 10-20 years. The Town and its consultants have been gathering information to identify existing conditions and trends, hamlet boundaries, and current news topics. We had kickoff meetings with the Town and Planning Boards in September 2020, completed interviews with Town Departments and stakeholders, and have met with the project’s Ad-Hoc Central Advisory Committee (CAC).

The principal purpose of the Draft Hamlet boundaries is to provide an organizational structure to the Comprehensive Plan Update and its recommendations. Hamlet boundaries were based on a number of factors including prevailing land use and zoning patterns, census, fire, water, sewer, and school district boundaries and physical and natural features. Development of the boundaries also included a review of aerial imagery, postal addresses, and zip code boundaries.

Public Outreach

An extensive public engagement process is now underway with opportunities to provide input into the plan’s goals and recommendations. Check this page for important updates including meeting dates and presentations, a link to our survey, interview summaries, and more.

We will be hosting a series of community-wide meetings in person and via Zoom—each one focused on one of the following four hamlet groups according to geographic area and interests:

Wading River and Manorville;
Calverton and Baiting Hollow;
Riverhead and Downtown; and
Aquebogue, Northville, Laurel, Jamesport, and South Jamesport.

Holding sessions focused on specific hamlet groups allows us to communicate with each community effectively and efficiently while covering both town-wide and local interests and priorities. AKRF will then summarize public comments and post on this page.

The outreach process will also include topic-oriented meetings centered on five topic areas.
